Health and Governance Coordinator
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – Wolastoqey Tribal Council Inc.

The Wolastoqey Tribal Council (WTCI) is a not-for-profit organization whose role is to provide capacity-building opportunities for its member communities within the traditional Wolastoqey territory in New Brunswick.

The Wolastoqey Tribal Council is currently seeking to fill the position of Health Governance Coordinator. The Tribal Councils in New Brunswick (WTCI, Mawiw Inc., and North Shore Mi’kmaq District Council Inc.) are engaged in community-led processes to pursue self-determination in health and increase control over health services currently delivered by ISC-FNIHB. The goals and objectives of this work seek to improve coordination, collaboration, communication, and integration in a new working relationship that will examine the feasibility of devolution (transfer) of health services. The Health Governance Coordinator will be reporting to the Health Services Manager.
Communication and Collaboration
· Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with Wolastoqey Health Directors and health leaders to ensure strong community engagement in Wolastoqey health governance and health transformation matters.
· Build respectful relations with Wolastoqey community members, Elders, and Knowledge-Holders to inform health governance and health transformation work.
· Work with regional Tribal Councils to establish communication structures for ongoing dialogue and consensus-building regarding First Nations health matters (e.g., health transformation).
· Coordinate meetings (develop meeting agendas, booking space, completion of travel forms, honoraria, meeting facilitation) as needed.
· Prepare quarterly updates for WTCI Board of Directors, Wolastoqey Health Directors, and Wolastoqey Band Managers as required.
Research, Policy, and Evaluation
· Assist in the exploration, research, and assessment of health governance and health transformation models to inform the process for Wolastoqey communities.
· Develop plans, support materials and platforms to advance health governance and health transformation.
· Develop a guide for assessment and evaluation, which includes working with communities to identify benchmarks for improved access to healthcare and health services over time for First Nations people.
· With communities, identify data needs and research priorities to assess/monitor First Nation health outcomes.
· Identify accomplishments, opportunities, challenges, and barriers to devolution (or transfer) of health services.
· Work with consultants as needed.
· Support the development of new partnerships and structures that will strengthen First Nation health governance and health transformation moving forward.
· Participate in Atlantic First Nations Health Partnerships committee and sub-committee meetings as needed.
· Liaise with stakeholders such as ISC-FNIHB, GNB Department of Health, Regional Health Authorities, and other organizations as needed.
· Identify opportunities and prepare proposals for funding that supports health governance and health transformation.
· Prepare reports for funding agreements as scheduled.
Qualifications and Attributes
· Post-secondary level education in health management or governance-related areas. A related degree may be considered in combination with relevant experience.
· Prior experience in health governance, research and evaluation, and project coordination.
· Knowledge of First Nations cultural and spiritual traditions. Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates.
· Demonstrated understanding of First Nations health context, priorities, and issues.
· Self-directed and able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
· Experience in community engagement, community/organization development, and partnerships with First Nations communities and/or Indigenous organizations.
· Experience working with multiple levels of government (First Nations, provincial, and/or federal).
· Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to engage in consensus-building and conflict resolution.
· Workshop facilitation experience is an asset.
· Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work under pressure and deal with a changing workload.
· Ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of assignments using independent judgement and minimal supervision.

Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Working location is Kchikhusis Commercial Centre, St. Mary’s First Nation, New Brunswick.
