River and reconciliation at heart of Wolastoqey Nation’s historic title case

TThe Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick is entering its fifth year of litigation against the province, seeking recognition of Aboriginal title to more than half the land in New Brunswick. The Nation says it never gave up title to these lands and wants a say in how they’re used moving forward. While the legal process is slow, leaders like Chief Patricia Bernard and Elder Edward Perley say the case is about protecting their territory, identity, and future — and ensuring that big decisions about land include Wolastoqey voices.
