EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY–Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick and Tribal Council

Office Administrator

This is a 12-month contract, with the possibility of renewal

Overview:

The Wolastoqey Tribal Council (WTCI) is a not-for-profit organization whose role is to provide capacity building opportunities for its five member communities within New Brunswick (Matawaskiye, Wotstak, Bilijk, Sitansisk and Welamukotuk), in the areas of: Health, Education, Training/Employment, Governance, Spots and Emergency Management.

The Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick (WNNB) is a not-for-profit organization that represents the six Wolastoqey Communities in New Brunswick (Neqotkuk, Matawaskiye, Wotstak, Bilijk, Sitansisk and Welamukotuk) to coordinate and provide technical support and advice on matters that relate to Wolastoqey constitutionally protected Aboriginal and Treaty Rights.

As a shared service WTCI and WNNB are seeking to hire an Office Administrator. With a warm and professional demeanor, the successful candidate will be the first point of contact at the WTCI/WNNB Stitanskis Dedham Street office and will oversee day to day reception and administrative operations.  Reporting to the Director of Human Resources the Office Administrator will have a genuine interest in helping others, respond well to direction, and have the confidence to engage staff and have positive interactions with the general public.

 Responsibilities include:

Reception:

  • Act as first point of contact for WNNB and WTCI in a positive, professional manner;
  • Answer and redirect all telephone calls as appropriate;
  • Review, update and record attendance in the office
  • Monitor and update social media and website for both organizations
  • Become and remain aware of community issues and resources as well as WNNB/WTCI programming and files
  • Tidy and maintain the entry and reception area of the office;
  • Receive and sort mail and deliveries,

Office Administration:

  • Provide general administrative support to both organizations
  • Order and maintain a sufficient inventory of office supplies, equipment, and materials;
  • Manage bookings for all board rooms and prepare rooms for meetings,
  • Plan and coordinate office services such as, equipment, supplies, forms, disposal of assets, maintenance and security services;
  • Support the coordination of office space;
  • Source nutritional snacks for the office
  • conduct research, as required;

Desirable Attributes, Skills and Experience 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience interacting with Community members, including elders and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Wolastoqey culture and communities. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent computer literacy skills including use of social media;
  • Strong organizational abilities;
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to problem solve, use good judgement and work independently, as well as in a team;
  • Awareness/sensitivity to all types of issues related to membership diversity;
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt creatively in a variety of situations;
  • College diploma /certificate in a related field and/or equivalent relevant experience is considered an asset

WTCI/WNNB offer an attractive compensation and benefits plan. Our office hours are Monday to Thursday 8:30 – 4:30, the working location is the Eqpahak Centre, Sitansisk (St. Mary’s First Nation), Fredericton, NB.
