After the Progressive Conservatives’ defeat in the recent election, Wolastoqey chiefs, including Sitansisk Chief Allan Polchies, expressed relief and optimism for better relations with the province. They criticized Blaine Higgs’ government for divisive tactics, particularly regarding land ownership fears and the cancellation of tax-sharing agreements, which had supported Indigenous community growth. Premier-designate Susan Holt aims to rebuild trust, negotiate new revenue-sharing agreements, and address key issues such as policing, health care, and language preservation. Polchies looks forward to collaboration, especially with newly elected MLA Luke Randall.
