Wolastoqey chiefs accuse PCs of fear-mongering

The Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick has strongly criticized the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party over its election platform, accusing it of “villainizing” First Nations. The platform, which includes a section on “Defend Landownership,” focuses on the Wolastoqey and Mi’kmaq First Nations’ title claims against the province. The PC Party asserts that treaties have settled the issue and vows to defend landowners in court. However, the Wolastoqey chiefs vehemently reject this claim, stating that their objective is not to displace private landowners but to secure recognition of Aboriginal title. They also refute the PC assertion that treaties have resolved the matter, citing Supreme Court rulings that support their case.
